Top 10 Most Unpopular Cars in China

Almost all automakers are fighting over a piece of China’s auto market but do they know what the Chinese car buyers felt towards their products? Gasgoo.com has released a list of top 10 most unpopular cars in China which can help automakers to reconsider the lineup of products they have in store for China.

1. Honda’s Acura TL
Released in China last September unfortunately was able to sell less than 200 units during H1 because unlike most of the imported premier cars readily equipped with advanced features like the intelligent key, navigation system, the Acura offer such as an option.

2. Mitsubishi Galant
Released in China last November sold only 4062 units. Its lack of charisma is the reason for its gloomy sales in China.

3. Fiat Perla
Offered last September and sold only 2000 units for the first half of the year.

4. Kia Rio
This car fell short in performance and was only able to sell 4996 units up to now. The old-generation Dongfeng KIA Rio could never be outperformed by the current new one.

5. FAW Vitz
Tianjin FAW Xiali Automobile Co sold 904 units of Vitz during the first half of year.

Since Toyota announced its plan to put the new Yaris into production next year, Vitz, which actually are the same model, is being threatened. Under the fierce competition from Polo, Fit and Peugeot 206, Vitz's sales are declining since the introduction in late 2002. The automaker lowered prices for the third time this Jun. on its Vizi cars and planned to redesign it, but analysts say that Vitz has slim chances of a rebirth.

6. Suzuki Liana
Suziki Liana's half year sales are 5,416 units, which didn't sell as expected despite considerable discounts offered. This Jun., Changhe Suzuki sold record-low 387 units of Liana.


7. Hyundai Sonata
Beijing Hyundai, Hyundai's joint venture in China, sold 7,808 units of Sonata. This model is a success in the European and American markets, but it's not the same thing in China. The Sonata failed to catch the consumers' attention for lack of brand halo.


8 Ford S-Max
The S-Max minivan posted wholesale volume of 2,260 units in its first half-year. S-Max's sales in the debuting month of Mar. topped one thousand units, but later declined to 173 units in June.

9 Toyota Prius
Toyota Prius' half-year sales-176 units-were restricted by the prohibitive price and the yet-unformed eco-fashion. Prius was put into production in China in late 2005 by Sichuan FAW Toyota, one of China's joint vehicles.

10 GM Park Avenue
SAIC GM sold 934 units of Park Avenue during the first six months. Chinese car buyers doubt about its origin and its lack of marketing has made even more unpopular with the buyers.

The Latest Prices of 2008 Nissan Sentra

The Nissan Sentra is becoming better and better each time Nissan Motor Corporation reveals a new version. Nissan Sentra is a small vehicle that is a rebadged version of the Nissan Sunny and was made for the US car market. Sentra is not sold in Japan but it is known as the Bluebird Sylphy in the Japanese car market. In some Asian countries, Sentra also have the same version but is rolling out under the name of Nissan Pulsar.

The 2008 Volkswagen R32


You may think that the 2008 Volkswagen R32 is simply a small, two-door hatchback. But, if you take a deeper look, you could say it is definitely big in features. It is equipped with goodies like heated leather sport seats, dual-zone climate control, Sirius Satellite Radio, glass moonroof, cool “F1” flat-bottom leather wheel, optional navigation.

Each feature seems to get along proportionally with the others. You could observe elegance on the meaty feel of the three-spoke wheel, the right-on placement of the pedal, and the icy glow of the blue instruments.

The R32 is powered by 3.2 L V-6 engine that produces 250 horsepower (up 50 hp over the GTI) with 236 pound-feet of torque (up 29 pound-feet over the GTI). The engine revs sweetly and pulls hard, whereas to put all of its might down with difficulty, courtesy of the standard 4Motion all-wheel drive. The performance is a little bit better than with the GTI. The AWD system and larger engine roughly add 300 pounds to the bottom line. Volkswagen offers more Vans, Trucks and SUV to compete with Toyota


Volkswagen AG, the world’s fourth largest car maker, is planning to compete with Toyota Motor Corp., the world’s largest automotive manufacturer, through offering more vans, pickup trucks and sport-utility vehicles.

In an interview with Germany’s monthly Manager Magazin, Chief Executive Officer Martin Winterkorn said, “In this area we haven’t done enough, but we’re stepping on the gas.”

At present, Volkswagen is selling about the same amount of traditional passenger cars like sedans and hatchbacks but lags far behind Toyota. The Japanese rival is considered the world’s second automaker in SUVs, vans and trucks. It has been building the Tundra pickup in Texas, making about three million more vehicles annually over Volkswagen, which offers no pickup in the U.S.

Stephen Pope, chief global market strategist at Cantor Fitzgerald in London, said, “To be a true volume player in the auto market, one has to be engaged in all aspects of the business… VW has proven its success in regular passenger cars, however, in other areas the firm has several blind spots.”

Winterkorn mentioned that he desires to introduce 12 new models within the next three years. It is part of a plan in increasing the company’s sales by 8 million vehicles. New offerings would include a Volkswagen brand compact SUV named the Tiguan, a minivan for the U.S. market built with Chrysler LLC and two new compact SUVs from luxury unit Audi.

Taking over as chief executive since January 1, Winterkorn previously ran the carmarker’s Audi brand. One of his initial decisions as Audi chief was building the Q7 SUV, which happens to be one of the unit’s best-selling vehicles these days.

Pope said, “Martin Winterkorn is on the right track with his plans in these areas and it is necessary to get out into the public domain as soon as possible as key rivals are pulling away.” “He is a driven CEO and I fully expect to see new models in these new areas catching the eye as the 2008 auto season gets going,” he added.

Winterkorn said that Volkswagen also has plans to increase cooperation with Porsche SE, Volkswagen’s largest shareholder, in areas such as sales and marketing.

With Winterkorn’s experience, the German company has a greater chance to achieve its goal to be as good as its Japanese rival in the segment. We just have to wait for the proof, which will be evident on the company’s future sales.
